AutoCeil Overview Instructions
PDF
Overview installation summarizes how AutoCeil™ is installed and shall only be used to understand the basic process. Please follow manufacturer's detailed instructions for safety, performance and effectiveness. Details and full instructions are available upon request.
Thermal Design manufactures the AutoCeil System and provides all components required to complete the installation for buildings that are ordered to the specifications. Each AutoCeil sheet is custom engineered and fabricated by Thermal Design for your building and provides project specific drawings with special detail instructions applicable to your building.
AutoCeil requires ceiling support struts to transfer rafter brace loads from the purlins to the struts. The support struts help provide a tensioned support platform for the AutoCeil sheet and insulation.
The innovative installation method completely eliminates bottomside banding, strapping and ceiling fasteners! Learn more about Advanced Metal Building Design.
Automated Installation
From the floor level, installers operate secured winches to pull the ceiling sheet UP one wall, ACROSS the ceiling and DOWN the other wall. The AutoCeil sheet is positioned, tensioned and secured and ready for insulation. Winches pull in ceiling sheet in minutes!

Step 1 - AutoCeil Sheet Set Up
Position and Secure AutoCeil Sheet
Select and position AutoCeil sheet along one sidewall base in the working bay, from column to column, by aligning the sheet and temporarily fasten the end of the sheet and Compress-R™ to the base channel. AutoCeil sheet arrives to the job site pleat folded and within protective wrapper to keep sheet clean. Manufactured slits in the AutoCeil sheet are located on top of folded stack for easy access.
Insert AutoCeil Pull Tube
AutoCeil Pull Tubes are inserted through the manufactured AutoCeil slits in sheet. Multiple pull tubes are assembled and inserted to match the working bay's width minus approximately two feet.

Attach AutoCeil Spreader Bars
AutoCeil Spreader Bars are attached and positioned approximately 20% from the ends of the assembled AutoCeil Pull Tube that has been weaved within the slits of the AutoCeil sheet.

Step 2 - AutoCeil Winch System Set Up
Secure AutoCeil Winches
The AutoCeil Winches are secured at the base channel on the Winch Side of the working bay (opposite side wall of staged AutoCeil sheet).
Position and center winches matching the spacing of the center of each spreader bar and secure to properly anchored base channel of metal building side wall.
Feed Winch Cables
AutoCeil Winches are placed in free wheel position allowing winch cables to unwind off reel by hand. Feed winch cables straight and parallel up the sidewall, over ceiling support struts and down the opposite sidewall to the folded stack sheet of AutoCeil.

Connect Winch Cables
Connect the cable ends to the AutoCeil Spreader Bar carabiner which is connected to the Pull Tube that has been weaved within the slits of the AutoCeil sheet.
Place both AutoCeil Winches back in the engaged position and plug winches into the on-site power source to begin sheet installation.
Step 3 - Installing AutoCeil Sheet
Automated Installation
AutoCeil Winch Operator, standing on the floor, uses push button controllers to mechanically wind the cables back on winch spools and begin to lift the AutoCeil sheet up and over the Inside Corner Strut to the ceiling plane.
The sheet continues to be pulled toward the operator between all ceiling support struts and purlins until sheet goes over and down the second inside corner strut. AutoCeil sheet continues down the wall towards the floor.

Secure Compress-R™
Once the AutoCeil sheet is pulled down to the opposite sidewall, manually align the AutoCeil sheet, tension and mechanically fasten with Compress-R™ to the top of the Inside Corner Struts.
Trim and Seal Along Rafters
Trim the AutoCeil sheet edges to fit neatly around purlins where they intersect atop rafters. Seal the 5” folded edge of the AutoCeil sheet to top of the rafters using provided Thermal Design sealant.
Step 4 - Roof Insulation
Top Side Installation
Unwrap unfaced insulation rolls or blankets, shake the insulation to achieve the required thickness and position the bottom layer neatly on top of the AutoCeil sheet parallel between the purlins. Add a top layer perpendicular over the purlins as required as the roof sheeting is installed. See project documents and drawings for project specific details.
Bottom Side Installation (alternative)
An alternative AutoCeil method to insulate new construction projects introduces insulation contractors to insulate completely from the inside out of the wind and weather compared to the traditional topside method of steel erectors insulating the roof cavities as they install roof sheeting.
With today's demand of metal building structures, combined with the shortage of quality steel erectors, Thermal Design's new AutoCeil methods allow erectors to speed steel erection significantly and removes the time burden of insulation installation which results in faster building completion.

Step 5 - Wall Insulation
Sidewall
Align the AutoCeil Sheet with the center of the base channel using Sticky Tape XL (1.25 inches wide) and mechanically fasten Compress-R. Seal AutoCeil Sheet edges along each column using Sticky Tape XL and fasten AutoCeil WallWashers to wall girts. Custom made Zee-Edge Trim™ is available for a mechanically fastened option vertically to the columns.
