Simple Saver® Air-Tight™ installation is similar to Thermal Design’s standard installation, however, the system includes our Simple Saver Air-Tight Sealant™ along with additional guidance for installers and trades post installation. Simple Saver Air-Tight Sealant™ is estimated and provided to seal each perimeter piece of Syseal air barrier fabric.

Energy codes and Standards contain requirements for commercial building envelopes to include a continuous air barrier to help minimize air infiltration and energy loss. Simple Saver Air-Tight provides solutions to help comply with the mandatory air barrier requirements.

3—Whole Building

Installed correctly and used in conjunction with other acceptable air barrier materials. Attention to detail and additional sealants, provided by Thermal Design are included. Buildings require a measured air leakage <0.40 cfm/ft2 at 75 Pa when tested in accordance with ASTM E779 (or equivalent methods).

Syseal® Fabric

Thermal Design’s Syseal® fabric is woven reinforced high-density polyethylene yarns coated on both sides with a continuous white or colored polyethylene film. Syseal colors include White, Super White, Black, Silver Aspen, Forest Green, and Toni Taupe™.

Items to Consider

rafter brace clips being installed from underside

Brace Clips

Brace clips (typically from building manufacturer) are ideal to connect rafter braces to roof purlins and column braces to girts because it eliminates cutting the air barrier fabric at each brace. Brace clips are fastened through the clip, through the fabric and into the purlin and
girt flanges.

self-drilling fasteners

Common Hanging Methods

Virtually anything can be attached to the underside of the roof purlins or face of the wall girts with negligible effect on the air barrier. Self-drilling fasteners with attachment options are ideal to minimize and eliminate cuts. Simple Saver Air-Tight Sealant may be used to seal around 3rd party fastening methods.

Communication is Key

Discuss air barrier objectives and fastening alternatives to preserve the integrity Simple Saver Air-Tight System. Encourage other trades (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) to design and install hanging items using the bottom plane of roof purlins or the inside plane of the wall girts. Schedule trades only after the system has been installed.
